These works depict delicately hand colored, painstakingly arranged, and lovingly photographed images of earth's most beloved creations.

Artist's statement by Kate Breakey: I grew up in rural Australia. Most of my family are avid gardeners. As children, we played in the native ‘scrub’, and in wild rambling gardens we made garlands and daisy chains to adorn ourselves. It’s not surprising that I’ve always been fascinated with botany and have photographed flowers for 40 years now. Flowers were on earth long before animals – about 500 million years. There are estimated to be 400,000 species of flowering plants on earth. The sole purpose of a flower is reproduction -its color and scent is to attract pollinators - one of natures beautiful symbiotic plans. But I think we are all attracted to flowers – we use then to signify love and fertility at weddings and to represent grief and loss at funerals. In every culture they are symbols, - a whole other language of metaphor and meaning. Flowers have been the subject of art since the beginning, we praise them, in songs and poetry and paintings. But like all living things they are transient, their beauty is brief - they wither, droop and decay. I sometimes find this transition a whole other kind of beauty.
